Favorite Books/Author List

Wondering about the books I love?  Of course you are!  Here is a totally random, vaguely categorized, as I think of them, list of the books that have changed my life in one way or another.

What I’m reading now: Path of Names by Ari Goelman.  Do I like it?  I just started reading this Middle Grade book by my friend, Ari. So far I love it! Ghosts at summer camp…

Children’s Books: Wrinkle in Time, Charlotte’s Web, The Secret Garden, Narnia series, House of Stairs (the most messed up children’s book ever written), House with a Clock in its Walls, The Three Investigator series

Lit Authors: Vonnegut, Borges, Bulgakov, Murakami, Dostoyevsky, Olesha, Calvino, Eco, Marquez, Sterne

Mystery/Thrillers/Horror: Kathy Reichs, Karin Slaughter, Tess Gerritsen, Jeffry Deaver, Robert Crais, Louise Penny, Caleb Carr, Lee Child, James Rollins, Stephen King, Laurie King, Michael Connelly, Henning Mankell, both Kellermans

Fantasy: The Hobbit, LOTR, Fire and Ice series, Harry Potter series, Harry Dresden series, Sanderson, Deed of Paksenarrion, Hunger Games series, Kingkiller Chronicles, Riyria Revelations, His Dark Materials series, Mists of Avalon

Poets: Carl Sandburg, EE Cummings, Uncle Walt

Non-Fiction: Oliver Sacks, Emile Durkheim, William James, James Firth

I read a lot.  I am very sad about the lack of women on this list and totally welcome suggestions.

  1. Hi!

I googled you because I wanted to tell you about a movie I just saw… it made me think of you and the classes you taught at St. Ed’s. It was hard to find you! You must not be teaching there anymore… but I knew this must be you when I read your bio and saw the Belize part. Anyway, the movie is called Stolen Seas and if you haven’t seen it, you must! It’s exactly the kind of complex, morally ambiguous topic you would discuss in one of your classes. I hope you’re doing well!

    Your old student,

    Jessica Colt
